The holiday season is here and the crew at Key Largo Fishing Adventures is celebrating because the offshore fishing has been giftful! Our fishing charter guests have been landing game fish like sailfish as well as good table fare such as mahi-mahi, snapper and grouper. This week the best fishing in Key Largo has been on the edge of the reef while live baiting.
So, here are some of the secret techniques that have made us the best fishing charter fleet in Key Largo. When live baiting we like to set up four rods with bait right on the surface to entice the mahi-mahi and billfish. Then we will place one rod on the bottom looking for grouper and snapper. And lastly, we will put a live bait at mid-depth for kingfish to strike. Sounds like lots of work, but our tournament-tested first mates make it look easy. The baits that have been working the best for deep sea fishing in Key Largo this week have been ballyhoo, pilchards and goggle eyes.
Overall we are seeing plenty of sailfish, dolphin, tuna, grouper, snapper, wahoo and kingfish. Aboard the Fin Chaser this week we had a corporate group charter that caught two huge wahoo and a bunch of groupers and snappers. The cold front that recently came through the Florida Keys has made for some great fishing. On the Fin Razer charter fishing guests landed a few nice racks which included grouper, mutton snapper, jacks, mackerel and one nice kingfish. And The Soz has seen plenty of line ripping action this week as well.
This is one of my favorite times of the year for offshore fishing in Key Largo. While the rest of the country is freezing, the fishing in Key Largo is HOT!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our past fishing charter customers and fishing fans around the world a Happy Holiday and joyous New Year.
